Entrepreneurs are some of my favorite people. But it’s not realistic or a good fit for everyone. The danger of overhyping entrepreneurship is that we substitute “be your own boss” for functioning organizations and supports. Everyone should have a chance without being a superhero.

i think small businesses often fail because many people who get into it dont even seem interested in delivering real value or making a profit, but rather as part of some "be your own boss" nonsense

It's incredibly stressful and I have lost countless hours of sleep, but man, when it's on, it's great. It is really fun being creative and having self-direction.

The primary enemy of the small business owner is the government. Regulatory compliance takes up an inordinate amount of time and energy - I would estimate 1/3d of my time is wasted on totally unnecessary crap so that I won't get fined or shut down.

There's also tremendous value in other endeavors, creative work such as science, math, art, music, architecture, film, game design, engineering, etc. We should be encouraging people to find their own paths instead of forcing them into only certain lines of work.
