I don’t know, I get that’s a take on it, but really is it hateful? Seemed a bit more optimistic than that. We can take to the stars and learn to live with others in the wide old galaxy etc. Was anti military industrial complex for sure, but different from anti-human, no?
What aspects of humanity were celebrated in Avatar, beyond our willingness to become nonhuman?
I hated Avatar the first time I saw it when it was called Dances With Wolves. I hated Avatar the second time I saw it and it was called The Last Samurai. I still hated it when it was called Avatar.

I got your second impression before ever dropping a dime on it. Haven't seen it and don't want to. The fact that this has such a large audience is really scary.
But does it? It made a big splash but doesn't seem to have aged well. I don't sense much of a fan culture centered around Avatar like you see around StarWars, etc.
Funny: second time I saw it, I realised it was just a cowboys & injuns film with CGI. Not many people noticed that the one with Harrison Ford & Daniel Craig was actually the sequel.
I think Avatar 5 could be good.
