When someone commits an actual crime, there is a time period to their sentence. When someone says something awful (or perceived as such by some), there are people who want them silenced- and in many cases to lose their livelihoods, too- indefinitely. That's insane.
Not insane once you realize that many people consider Wrongthink a more serious crime than rape or murder.
