Actual psychology: personality comes mostly from genes plus noise. Psych-adjacent fields (life coaching, self-help, New Age therapies): personality comes from unresolved childhood trauma & maladaptive parenting. The persistence of Freudianism never ceases to astound me.

Just to clarify, the health outcomes include many mental health outcomes. Depression, anxiety, suicide attempts - plus behavioral issues (sexual promiscuity, smoking, etc.). It doesn't turns extroverts into introverts, but lots of touch points w/ personality writ large.

For the umpteenth time, therapy practiced well is quite a bit more complex than it is purported to be. It's tiring having to defend it from people such as yourself who use it as a whipping boy of convenience. Trying reading The Gift of Therapy by Yalom. It's great/complex.
