Actual psychology: personality comes mostly from genes plus noise. Psych-adjacent fields (life coaching, self-help, New Age therapies): personality comes from unresolved childhood trauma & maladaptive parenting. The persistence of Freudianism never ceases to astound me.

Right. But for psychology to call all interaction with environment, which remains outside genetics and is often highly structured, - a "noise" - is very dismissive and reckless.

What do you mean by highly structured? It could be random individual environmental influences. It’s not that it’s been dismissed, it’s just that they are relatively small influences.
