The use of mounted cavalry in that particular way made me scream at the TV, but I won't be dragged into a discussion regarding tactics in a fantasy battle... ... Who am I kidding, it's going to be a heated discussion first thing in the morning at the office.

Hit the enemy fast, draw them away and occupy them to let the dragons make a few passes whilst they were in the open. Staggered retreat was planned. And successful. They played for time.
