Actual psychology: personality comes mostly from genes plus noise. Psych-adjacent fields (life coaching, self-help, New Age therapies): personality comes from unresolved childhood trauma & maladaptive parenting. The persistence of Freudianism never ceases to astound me.

And if one has zero genes in common with the family one grows up with...where does that end up? As in an adopted infant who never knew his boo fam. That would have been my dad, and by extension, me, as I have no genetic tie to my paternal family.
