Goodness knows we should be concerned... if I weren't worried about AI, I wouldn't write for The Technoskeptic. Hoping Alphabet gets shit together and realize AI ethics are VITAL. But what about China and Russia, where AI ethics aren't a serious consideration?

Google should have seen that coming a mile away and prepared for it. A public ethics council is going to be about PR, status and networking politics. Actual work on this cannot be done on a stage, and will be done by very boring, mathematically educated and status blind people.

Its just that the next gen of AI are not chatbots. They are driving cars and ban comments. It is absolutely necessary for them to allow human ethics, preferably those of a broad community and not just a few people in the back room.

It's not 'SJW signaling', it's genuine concern about people with unethical and anti-social agendas have a voice in defining ethics for the future of civilization. Labeling people as SJWs and their concerns mere 'signaling' is itself an identity politics signal.
