You just went f*cking nuclear. He was terrifically wrong, of course, but also eloquent (from what I gather from translations and expert testimony). Hard to imagine picking up Derrida for the sheer joy of reading his prose.

Like Plato, I think Derrida reads better in ancient Greek.

overrated in what way? if you judge Plato by where we are now & retrospectively, sure. Judge him by what kind of philosophy existed before him and, well... cc

haha yeah, no wayyy. Plato should be in anyone's top ten list, not for his conclusions, but for his methods and the questions he discovered. Moreover, some areas of his thought are holding up quite well. For instance, Godel's work is an extension of Plato...

I know Plato is much more popular than Kant, but I find Kant much more overrated. Plato’s ideas are almost cartoonish, but they provide a perspective of thinking.
