I was a cop for 4 yrs, served in Iraq, almost died, have a Purple Heart, know many who have died in service, but I don’t like to use the word patriotic b/c it sounds too populist and nationalistic for me. I love my country but my experiences have made me more libertarian.

Thank you for your service. I also love my country, and I'm also a libertarian. But I'm also willing to identify as a patriot. It's a complicated issue no doubt.

Wouldn’t this be skewed to your self-selected followers?

Conservatives are far more likely to “virtue signal” their patriotism. That doesn’t mean liberals don’t have love for their country, which is what patriotism is. Liberals may be critical of the country, but that is a patriotic duty.

How do Leftists express love of America, beyond criticizing it? Genuinely curious.

If you don't know what 'patriotic' means, you're probably not a patriot.

No to be coy, but it depends on how you define “patriotic”.

How about 'proud to display the American flag'
