Holy shit. Students need to record this stuff relentlessly. Did anything come of this?https://twitter.com/Rissian9/status/1073844634420277248 …

This seems like a bit of a red herring taking us away from your original point of it imposing a chilling effect but I can think of many reasons including: - Opportunity for question and answer - Students held accountable for info - Message delivery is usually better in person

Damn good question, honestly.

Learning and memory retention goes up when you're actively engaged. Some would do just as well with a taped class. Overall grades would likely be lower without direct interaction. If grades/retention were the same, I'd question why the class existed at all.

Agreed. I don't think they need to. And I hope that's our future. College, as it is today, is a colossal waste of money.

BTW, I don't mean to come across as antagonistic or snarky. I truly appreciate your work, voice and willingness to discuss. Since college students are adults, my opinion that it is better if we know what they are being taught may not carry as much validity.

The fear of being offensive has the worst chilling effect on speech. Not exposing people to speech.
