No I just think you should educate yourself a bit before staking out positions (such as the subjectivity of beauty) that you don’t even realize are incompatible with your faith. If the Christian God exists, beauty is not subjective. Reflect for a moment and maybe you’ll see why. https://twitter.com/elainem_k/status/1118236154413953024 …

Even Darwinians like me believe the strong evidence that there are cross-cultural standards of beauty in faces, bodies, pictures, buildings, and landscapes. Anybody who thinks 'beauty is merely subjective' doesn't know the research -- and probably has an inhumane agenda.

There's all the research about the babies looking for longer times at more beautiful faces at super young ages no?

but "beauty" to what end? you may both think something beautiful but for altogether different reasons. You find a face beautiful (that others may not btw) as a way to pass on your Darwinian genetics. That same face to a Christian could be a "gift from God". Are u both correct?

The evidence that these judgments are consistent across people and cultures is relevant against the 'beauty is subjective' argument, whatever theoretical interpretation you put on them.

Is anyone saying it’s “merely” subjective in this conversation?

One of the most annoying things is watching a debate in which half of people are right, half are wrong, and all of them for the wrong reason :P It's not god, and that it isn't doesn't imply some kind of full-on relativism, as you say.

For Kant judgements of beauty are subjective *and* universal in that we expect others to share them: we are 'suitors for agreement'. We give *reasons* for our judgements which are more than individual preferences devoid of cognition, eg my preference for that flavour of cheese.
