If we wish to uphold the beauty and profundity of the Notre Dame cathedral, that means re-familiarizing ourselves with the philosophy and religious principles that built it.
We must refamiliarize ourselves with buildings great works for our great-great-grandkids. Our civilization has lost the ability to think past our own mortality.

True, when it comes to the US (Europe) etc. But stating that " Our civilization has lost the ability to think past our own mortality." is erroneous. Icelanders do not and will not get "on board" with any consensus ever.
