People who have literary agents: what the hell do they do? Are they worthwhile? What should I be looking for in one?
Experienced agents are usually very helpful, dramatically increase advances, and totally worth their 15/20% fee. Very hard to get foreign translation deals without them, for example.

Do you have any advice on how to find a good literary agent? I hear this can be quite difficult, and so far I have found that to be the case. I am trying to find one at the moment but I have no clue what I'm doing!

Depends where you are. If you write in English and live in the US or UK then there are lots of good ones, and quite a few reference books and websites with directories.

To my knowledge, "Spent" wasn't even translated in the Middle East. It was just retitled to "Must Have".
