        Just kidding, elves are clearly pre-agrarian white North Europeans as remembered in myths their sedentary descendants inherited from the Mediterranean farmers settlers whose culture they adopted. Didn’t occur to them the elusive wilderness beings of legend were their grandpa.

        A lot of that seems to be just because our ancestors weren't cool with competition or the uncanny valley, but were very cool with organized campaigns of extermination.

        There were plenty of resources around the world, and not that many competing for them. A cataclysmic event like a supervolcano or a meteorite caused nuclear winter, or sudden melting of the ice caps (raising sea level over 300 feet) are far more likely explanations @SacredGeoInt
