Questions: There are so many "spiritual gurus" in India. Why is being a spiritual guru not as much of a big a deal in America? Why do I feel like spiritual gurus are looked upon with a more skeptical eye in America than in India? Are people like Tony Robbins considered a guru?

Also there’s the element of bad prophecy: in the tradition of (this stuff), if you proclaim yourself a shaman/spiritual guru, that’s a bad prophecy and means you’ll most probably fail. You have to earn the title from the followers/beneficiaries. You don’t call yourself that 1/n

Actually that’s the tradition with most things in the East, while in America you market yourself and prop-up your credentials as much as legitimately possible. The American market/consumer doesn’t “bestow” things/permission/legitimacy upon you the way the Eastern consumer does.
