FWIW, as a mentor, I always tell PhD students that it's totally fine to have kids in grad school, there are many good reasons not to wait, and hours they have to work per week is not going to decrease any time soon.

Most universities are utterly abysmal at supporting grad students who want to have kids. It's heart-breaking, unjust, shameful, and alarming.
