If we see a x10-100 increase in space activity over the next 50 years, which product/service is mostly cause:
1) space tourism gets fashionable for the mega-rich in next 20 years; then an accident kills a few dozen billionaires; there's an industry shake-out; and eventual resurgence; 2) meanwhile, robotic asteroid mining gets more and more lucrative....

For large numbers of _people_ in space, tourism is the killer app. Short of that, it’s all robots. Large numbers would be predicated on safety, and far, far lower cost (notional BFR point to point level costs).
