I think that the issue is that the word is often applied in a subjective manner. An example of a reasonable use might be “Dichotomizing continuous data can be problematic.” (Followed by an explanation of why.)

Yeah, but in a legit case like that, 'problematic' is painfully vague about what exactly the problem would be... it means little more than 'bad' or 'wrong'.

It’s a weasel-word, nearly always used to give the strong implication that some idea or person is unsavoury without actually needing to go through the trouble of articulating how or why.

It's a way to say 'this person sucks' and sound considered and eloquent while doing so.

I am the 100000000 vote (in binary) so if we discount the zeroes, I too have a single 1 in my vote. 256th if someone asks what this means in decimal... Or 0100 in sedecimal (Hex) Yours is 000000001 in binary and 1 in decimal and 0001 in sedecimal (Hex). My 1 wanders around

There are intellectual conundrums that can be said to be hard to solve, and therefore "problematic" in that sense.

Isn't this just called a problem? I studied philosophy. We had all kinds of problems. Problem of Evil, Mind Body problem etc. No one says "you know the mind body problem is problematic". It's just a problem.
