I once was a big-government leftist. So was @RubinReport. Here he tells me what he walked away from the left and became a classical liberal:pic.twitter.com/96KPpG5CBI

Dave, my mum is in her 60s and you're her favourite "TV" show.

Are you sure he's not just very very agreeable? I had to stop listening to the show because I have a hard time believing Dave is doing more than passively reflecting most of his guests' perspectives.

Richard Dawkins likes to say (im not sure where the quote originates, Feynman maybe?) that you should be open-minded, but not so open-minded that your brain falls out. So ok, maybe Rubin's open-minded but the results are a goddamn mess.
-
You're right about the far-left of course, and the way some of its values are taking over universities/the media. In Rubin's universe though, Social Darwinists, ethno-nationalists etc. are "centrists"

Look, I don't hate him. He's not evil. But it is such a sign of the blindspot you share with him if you can't see exactly what kinds of conversations he refuses to have or his basic frame of 'push back.'
