Most likely, increased material well being and decreased comfort. Not that I support them in general, but I have noticed recently that religions tend to make up the other side quite often.

There are two different issues with this. If they're given any sort of authority at all they'll either be easily corruptible in the direction of permitting an insane person to keep power, or to blow the whistle on the president if the other party greases their palm a little.
