So, here's my personal take: I think it'd make sense to give someone who is having a baby ~1.5 years extra tenure track time. I think that's the least bad solution to the academia vs. family problem. Concern is it might be seen as discriminatory and/or paternalistic.
Let's just try it at a couple of hundred randomly assigned colleges, measure outcomes, and see if it helps. We need evidence-based pronatalism.
