From an evolutionary view, an 'economy' is succeeding when most people have a good chance of finding a mate, making a home together, having at least a couple of kids, and contributing meaningfully to their community. Other metrics of success are mostly distractions.

even if that were a worthy metric worth using, the birth rate in the US is dropping quickly from year to year. So in that sense your argument actually strengthens his case.

I agree from an evolutionary view, people will choose reproductive success over all else, including happiness (although they generally align). But, are they being irrational when they do so? Slaves to genetic overlords?
