Does it matter? Global warming is still an existential risk. If someone says cyanide is bad in food, and also state that the earth is flat, what does it say avout cyanide in food?https://twitter.com/primalpoly/status/1112042694858039296 …

I suspect that most of these people assume that "existential risk" is a more erudite way of saying "huge, really bad risk" and simply double down when the true definition is revealed to them.

True. From an ultra-long-term perspective, the difference between a true existential risk and a mere 'global catastrophic risk' (GCR) that's not an X-risk is bigger than that between a GCR and a single plane crash. It's very counter-intuitive.

Maybe this will give some answers? This guy was on rogan’s podcast not too long ago, haven’t given it a listen yet, but plan to. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=17aE91SBMoY …

There is a small risk of runaway warming. It doesn't compare to AI risk or bio-risk, but it's somewhere in the rankings.

One day (after you've studied how ecologies are interconnected and temperatures guide everything from reproduction to migration), when you can estimate effects at larger time-scales and think beyond just humans, you'll change your mind. Till then, kindly stick to your domain.

p.s. I'm not an AOC supporter, nor agree with her socialist policies. My comment is specific to your bad conjecture.
