Why are so many sex researchers Canadian?

Out of curiosity, how do the grant funding/IRB problems differ in the US?
It's virtually impossible to get federal funding in the US to do sex research, unless it's very narrowly focused on STDs and public health.

Just terrible. I suppose it would be possible to also get funded if the research concerned fertility? But nothing vaguely hedonic.
