This assumes that "the greater good" was a main factor in the tradition's creation.
No, I'm just figuring that in civilizations that currently exist, traditions that are still around tended not to kill the host civilization, and probably helped it.

If the bar is "not kill the host civilization", then yeah, you have a kind of anthropic principle going. I was thinking of a higher bar.
