I've been a major critic of RussiaGate for years now and one of the things that was so infuriating about it was that despite leveling all sorts of very serious allegations -- like "treason" -- there would be no consequences for getting it wrong. It was unfair from the beginning.

It's more than just this stupid story that matters, it's a demonstration of the massive power imbalance between the mainstream media and political establishment and everyone else. And we were powerless to do anything about it for years.
