To be fair, physics is harder than psychology. I grant that. I’m a psychologist, but I’m not attached to my field really. I’d rather write poems. Still, it’s quite a bit more sophisticated than many imagine.
Physics is more challenging cognitively -- requires advanced math and counter-intuitive imagination. But psychology is more challenging emotionally -- requires overcoming self-deception, moralizing, virtue-signaling, etc.
As a lay person I hesitate to opine but is not true that psychology is still an adolescent science? As a messy young field it seems less risky for the amature to hold opinions.
Psych is a mixed bag. Some parts are very solid, cumulative, and mature, such as psychometrics, behavior genetics, and neuroscience. Other parts are ideological quagmires that never advanced past political grandstanding.
I’m enthralled by, and read many books about, both.
