I see that people with millions of followers are doxxing trophy hunters again. Instead of getting outraged over hunting, why not follow @sentientist who gives practical advice on how to reduce animal suffering--no doxxing included.

Who says scale matters? If it did then why is it so much harder to watch, say, a man executed than to read about the slaughter of millions in a war far away? I’d say proximity matters more.
I'm a utilitarian, so I think scale matters. A billion sentient beings suffering is 1000x worse than a million sentient beings suffering. Why wouldn't it be?

If you’re a utilitarian then of course that’s what you’d think. And it’s good that you do. But people just don’t behave in this way. We’d sooner give $10 to the lone beggar in the street than $1 to feed 10 kids in Africa. Proximity seems to matter more than scale.
