Cambridge University had an opportunity to offer its students 10 lectures on the Bible by one of the world’s leading public intellectuals. And it has squandered it because he’s insufficiently woke. I’m ashamed to be a Cambridge alumnus. Pathetic.https://www.varsity.co.uk/news/17349

As far as I'm concerned any institution is free to invite or disinvite anyone, but what I keep *not* understanding is why isn't there a prior discussion w stakeholders incl the student body before a decision is made, instead of waiting for backlash?
-
Note I am not saying this would in all cases make things calmer and more balanced, but we know that the mere fact of not being involved in the decision-making where the only option left is outcry will make people react more strongly.

Sorry, explain how someone with no qualifications or background in a subject should have a fellowship at Cambridge, and this is anything other than traditional academic values?

I'm glad you're optimistic that this fad will pass. Could you go further and explain why you think this will happen?

What is it, 'Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient'?
