Activist bullies force the “correction” of a published article. The journal admits that the original had no errors. Littman’s term—Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria—is objected to on the basis that she is describing something previously undescribed. Discovery is now beyond the pale.https://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1108133312281878528 …

PLOS ONE has confirmed to me that even though Lisa Littman's paper was officially "corrected," there was no false information published in the original. I think this is an unusual deployment of the term "correction." pic.twitter.com/UkPuAPxhhG

What non-scientists don't seem to understand is that scientists make up new terms all the time. Some of them prove useful, and most don't. If you can't expand the language, you can't expand your models of the world.

While it is fine to make up new words, or even redefine words, it requires a significant amount of justification. Here's the work that I put in to a paper just to justify a restructuring of our understanding of #religion.https://www.researchgate.net/publication/326138155_A_Unified_Psychological_and_Anthropological_Model_of_Religion …

Here's a paper where I argue for this thing called "eidos" and work to justify why it is a useful term and why the definition works. #eidos #science #anthropologyhttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/330321822_From_Gender_and_Race_to_Eidos_A_broader_term_for_culturally_defined_roles_based_on_biological_traits …

Not to mention language itself is made up and incredibly ambiguous. New terms and clarifying current terms are part of the language process. Every discipline and profession has to do it.

Non-scientists understand this perfectly. Just about every field of work involves making up new terms. Marketing, law, human resources, etc.
