On the topic of IQ, Stephen Jay Gould was a far-Left ideologue -- a charlatan, a liar, and a bully who never understood the basic science. His book 'The mismeasure of man' is still required reading in many universities.https://twitter.com/Quillette/status/1108258325542494208 …

Oh c’mon, Gould was not a charlatan even if his book is biased. Overusing that word cheapens it and makes people who use it look bad.

Nah, Gould was a charlatan. He intentionally wrote as if the whole field of evolutionary bio was in complete disarray and acted like only he could save it, while at the very same time peddled lies about the very same field. Plus, he was a giant dick to EO Wilson for no reason.

That behavior is typical of prominent figures in any field. Claiming everything is orderly and fine doesn’t leave room for one’s own ego/work. And even though I like E.O. Wilson, being a dick to someone does not make one a charlatan.

He was a fraud and a charlatan because he pretended to understand a research field that he didn't understand. This was immediately obvious to everyone in the field.

Prominent figures do this all the time, see Steven Pinker for example.

Taleb is the better example on this topic.
