      Geoffrey Miller Retweeted Quillette

On the topic of IQ, Stephen Jay Gould was a far-Left ideologue -- a charlatan, a liar, and a bully who never understood the basic science. His book 'The mismeasure of man' is still required reading in many universities.https://twitter.com/Quillette/status/1108258325542494208 …

Oh c’mon, Gould was not a charlatan even if his book is biased. Overusing that word cheapens it and makes people who use it look bad.

I don't use the word charlatan lightly. Gould was a charlatan on IQ.

Gould was a charlatan period. His attacks on evolutionary psychology were ugly and uninformed. And his “contributions” to evolutionary theory were mostly banal or unhelpful (e.g., punctuated equilibrium).

I don’t think Chomsky’s ever had a nice word to say about EP either. Seems unnecessarily harsh towards Pinker for some reason too

Considering the state of statistical analysis at the time (arguably still true today with different methods giving different heritability estimates), it was not an unreasonable position to be a skeptic.

The article presents cases of lies andf forgery; if true that would make him a charlatan.
