Confused about whether libertarians were on board with the idea of a universal basic income. Are you libertarian? If so, are you in favor of a UBI?

Yes, I'm libertarian, and I'm deeply conflicted about UBI. Here's an idea: let's randomly assign some states to try it, and others not, and see how it goes, using non-partisan metrics of success that we've agreed in advance?

Not quite the same idea but Andrew Yang mentioned that as an empiricist and he would launch UBI pilot programs in several communities first to gather data on its effectiveness (or lack thereof).

In principle, yes. In practice, we're already doing it, but really inefficiently. And should the gains from Artificial General Intelligence be given ONLY to the first companies that happen to invent it?

          Doesn’t Alaska already have it?

Yep. Every resident gets a check every year. In 2018 it was $1,600. In 2015, with high oil prices, it was a record $2,072. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/2/13/16997188/alaska-basic-income-permanent-fund-oil-revenue-study …

Where does the funding come from? If the funding comes from that State the economy will get a boost until the debt that funded it comes to roost If the money comes from the Federal Govt, the economy will improve indefinitely compared to a State that didn't get UBI

Universal Basic Income is a bad idea. It'd be better to have a public-private source for apprenticeship in a trade. This way trades get more meat for the grinder and no one is working unpaid internships just for the credibility to get a respectable job or an education.

I'm actually quite interested in this kind of idea, and I've never considered something like it. If you've given this ample thought would you expend upon the idea, or have you seen proposals elsewhere to which I could turn my attention?
