Sure, but preferences don't map onto actual sexual pairings in a straightforward way. For e.g. a woman's preference for high status might be balanced by a stronger desire to have sex with a likeable, reliable partner in the interests of creating LTR.
I emphasize mutual mate choice & pair bonds, not hypergamous polygyny, in everything I've written about prehistoric mating. Is that 'reality - detached'?
