I don’t think the criteria should be wether it’s an existential threat or not. Things can be be very bad ideas even if they are unlikely to drive extinction.

I think open polyamory in many ways seems to have similar problems as Marxism - it just goes against the grain most of time. We have evolved sexual strategies to incorporate cheating, obviously - even sometimes unacknowledged "open" affairs - but open affairs seem to breed hate.
