Politicians who don't understand evolution, life, or X risk. If life on Earth survived the Chicxulub impactor that exterminated 75% of all species, including all non-avian dinosaurs, 66 million years ago, it will probably survive a gradual 2 degree increase in temperature.https://twitter.com/IlhanMN/status/1096482619246723074 …

Our next President should declare a #NationalEmergency on day 1 to address the existential threat to all life on the planet posed by Climate Change.

He’s focusing on the “all life” part of her statement. Clearly, some species would benefit while other species would suffer, so her blanket statement about “all life” was inaccurate.

Not worried about “life” surviving. It’s more of a wanting humans to survive sort of thing.

If 2 degC will wipe out most of humanity, then life on the planet will most certainly be secure. We are the biggest threat to life on earth.

The cat likely believes in tipping point theory, like punctuated equilibrium. Hard to say what the impact would be of a sudden melt at the poles. I agree that humans will adapt and thrive regardless of what happens.

Or the even more catastrophic Permian-Triassic extinction event 250 million years ago. It is estimated that 90% of genera went extinct during that event.

Sure, it's probably going to survive. But bad things will still likely happen because of it

Under what scenario exactly no bad things will likely happen ? Then, what is the practical reach of such a statement ?
