Most public US universities have many literal restrictions and unconstitutional limits on free speech. These nudge the culture towards intolerance. Fixing rules won't fix the SJW culture, but it will delegitimize it somewhat.

Okay, thanks. I agree that from an authority perspective they might be weakened, but I think the opposite would happen to the culture. As you know, playing victim can be a powerful move. What can be a bigger gift to the "SJWs" than an actual order by the Trump administration?

If the SJWs think that they can stoke public outrage by saying 'OMG look Trump is imposing free speech on universities!', they will lose even more credibility...

They will never use the term 'free speech' it will be like 'santioning violence against marginalized groups' or maybe 'normalizing hate on campus'

They will try that, and they'll drink their own cool-aid, but most voters will see right through the rhetoric.

I'm not sure how directly voters can affect campus culture, unless you are referring to the power of voters to shut down public universities. If so, isn't invoking the threat of the latter a bad thing for academic freedom in many other, more important ways?
