Clinical psychology is rarely about resolving purely mental issues. Most clients are appropriately anxious or depressed about an awful life circumstance - death, illness, bankruptcy. They don't need a drug, they need help to strategically problem-solve.

Szasz maintained that the very concept of ‘mental illness’ - that the mind could have a ‘disease’ was absurd. His seminal “The Myth of Mental Illness” (1961) argues that Psychiatry is illegitimate as a branch of medicine.

He did NOT argue that people in difficulty should not be cared for. He just said that it should not be medical doctors doing it.
