Yeah, I don't know. The argument seems to be that it is due to plasticity. (That is certainly how it is widely interpreted)

I thought the authors then replicated the findings using a before after design (woolett 2011 current biology) the other caveats of what this actually is still stand

No, authors found that those who passed the test and then left the job v. quickly afterwards did not show same hippocampal asymmetry as those who stayed in the job for a long time
