I'm extremely curious: what's the dividing line between "social justice warrior" and "someone deeply interested in social justice"? I've been wondering, because it seems like just about anyone interested in social justice these days is maligned as a "social justice warrior."

That’s exactly what a libel suit would entail. Libel is a restriction on free speech.
Libel isn't constitutionally protected speech. Free speech is about protected speech.
