When attributing sentience, we should err on the side of caution. Imagine the pain we might be inflicting by assuming some creature of another is not sentient.

@primalpoly I'm finishing up Jacy Reese's fantastic "The End of Animal Farming" which is where this conversation eventually leads. I believe, however, that there are existential problems to which mankind should devote resources to avoid extinction rather than clean meat.
