Single payer might make sense as policy. But you'll alienate a lot of libertarians if you talk about a 'right to health care', which boils down to 'a right to extract tax money from others and/or labor from medical professionals'. Not all good things worth having are 'rights'.

Agree with this, as a healthcare provider. It’s hard to hear that someone has a “right” to my labor even though I do want every American to have access to healthcare services. Who says that people have a “right” to a plumber’s services?

How do you feel about a minimum flat rate for each individual procedure? Therefore, allowing customers the right to decide if they want to purchase insurance for an additional coverage. If not, they would then pay out of pocket to cover their costs.

That's essentially fee-for-service which is how it's been done for years. The problem is the entire American healthcare system is broken. Single payer is actually a great idea, to simplify it, but the problem then becomes what the prices are set at. It has to be done fairly.

Politicians should make the case more strongly that single payer could massively reduce health care billing costs, which IIRC equal about as much as our entire military spending each year.
