Its true, most of the southwest is arid and can only feed 1 cow per 3 or 4 acres. Also cattle feed is so destructive on water supplies here we have ground collapsing from the aquifers being drained. Needless to say cattle and alfalfa shouldnt be grown in the west.

My state is so sparsely populated, including cows we echo like a vacant house! ;@)
Same with much of the northern plains that are too arid and/or cold for agriculture. Like 80% of Wyoming seems like pasture but the cows are incredibly sparse. It's not like there would be forests and a lot of wildlife without the cows.
