But the point people are making is that BTC is a credible threat to both financial censorship, and to bad/inflationary monetary policy. Lots of people just holding it, with *some* direct real-world economy based on it, is enough.

I think you're misunderstanding the 'buy bitcoin' thing. What it refers to is exactly the problem you pointed out. More people need to own and use it, so that solutions built on top of it become more widespread.

Given the expense of mining gear and how minimum purchase of

is more than double my weekly pension, it seems to me that Bitcoin is not really that accessible to people on low incomes either. -
