First dates suck because they are so reliant on first impressions, which are typically unreliable indicators of stable personality traits. Gosh I wish all my first dates were well versed in personality theory and the great situation-trait debate. 
Always do a 5-min skype before a first date. Then the 'first date' will be like a second date.

Yes! I always do a pretty decent phone call prior and I always mention I bring up contentious subjects because I think they’re the most interesting.
