That they're digging in their heals as opposed to engaging with their critics in good faith suggests that these people are activists first and scientists/clinicians second (if at all). Even if their guidelines were flawless, this is not how a professional organization should act.

It is within the rights of the APA to decry particular manifestations of masculinity but this must be based on a body of empirical data not ideological claims. It would be equally appropriate for the APA to claim that homosexuality is anti-social personality type as they once did
