From the societal perspective yes. If we're trying to get men to take care of the children they sire then polyamory doesn't offer them a buy-in. Post-scarcity, maybe men are willing to share women but i bet your TFR craters.
Committed pair bonds and paternity testing offer buy-ins for paternal investment, even in poly & open relationships.
