Psych Peeps: If I plan to use the data as part of my research, do I need IRB approval before posting a twitter poll? (And, yes, I appreciate the circularity of this question)
I also wonder whether it's OK to use Twitter polls as 'deep background' to refine research hypotheses, even if the results aren't to be published... Such a grey area.

Isn't it immediately flawed since your followers and all their followers are linked by interest .. ? Or am I blind to obvious sarcasm ?
