Yes it is too much to ask because it's impossible. Politicians cannot reduce main existential threats to humanity. You have an unconstrained vision of what is possible using collective action. The reality is that they only make things worse. The market is our best tool.

I suppose it’s reasonable, but not necessarily realistic, to ask them to not get in the way of solving existential threats. We have to handle those ourselves. They could help by deterring foreign aggressors and preserving the Bill of Rights.
